School executives will create conditions that result in strategically re-imaging the school’s vision, mission, and goals in the 21st century. Understanding that schools ideally prepare students for an unseen but not altogether unpredictable future, the leader creates a climate of inquiry that challenges the school community to continually re-purpose itself by building on its core values and beliefs about its preferred future and then developing a pathway to reach it.
1a. School Vision, Mission and Strategic Goals: The school’s identity, in part, is derived from the vision, mission, values, beliefs and goals of the school, the processes used to establish these attributes, and the ways they are embodied in the life of the school community.
During the distinguished leadership training, I completed an assignment that required me to review and evaluate my school's current mission statement, vision statement and beliefs (document located to the right). Additionally, these same items are part of our school improvement plan as located below.

At my current school, the first day staff meeting is where the administration team shares/reviews the school's vision, shares current school data and the plan for improvement. I was tasked with presenting parts of the instructional framework, a district wide initiative. As a leader, I learned that your delivery is just as important as your content. I had to make sure staff were engaged and receptive to my information. I connected this new initiative to strategies that teachers were already using in the classroom.

1c. School Improvement Plan: The school improvement plan provides the structure for the vision, values, goals and changes necessary for improved achievement for all students.
I am an active member of the school improvement team as I am the member who documents team meetings, helps progress monitor the school's plan and presents this information to the school improvement team and staff.

1d. Distributive Leadership: The school executive creates and utilizes processes to distribute leadership and decision-making throughout the school.

At Northern Nash High School, a summer retreat is held prior to the start of each school year to begin working on school improvement. I worked alongside two school improvement team members to create a document to clarify and explain the roles of our MTSS and PBIS Team. Additionally, we created a communication protocol to be used among the various school teams in order to ensure that all information for school improvement is being disseminated to the entire staff. |
