Standard Seven
School executives will build systems and relationships that utilize the staff’s diversity, encourage constructive ideological conflict in order to leverage staff expertise, power and influence in order to realize the school’s vision for success. The executive will also creatively employ an awareness of staff’s professional needs, issues, and interests to build cohesion and to facilitate distributed governance and shared decision-making.
7a. School Executive Micro-political Leadership: The school executive develops systems and relationships to leverage staff expertise and influence in order to affect the school’s identity, culture, and performance.
Throughout the NELA program, I have participated in several assessments day in which I was presented with a scenario and had to respond as the principal. The tab above is a link to a video which demonstrates my experience with micro-political leadership.
Each year, every high school must host a curriculum fair to coincide with registration for the upcoming year. I was available during the fair to greet parents and answer any question. In addition, I had the opportunity to speak with our district's executive director of middle school. She shared some middle school curriculum updates that will effect high school course selection for future incoming freshman.
As a school leader it is important that I am available and visible during school functions and remain aware of curriculum changes within the district.
