School executives set high standards for the professional practice of 21st century instruction and assessment that result in a no-nonsense accountable environment. The school executive must be knowledgeable of best instructional and school practices and must use this knowledge to cause the creation of collaborative structures within the school for the design of highly engaging schoolwork for students, the on-going peer review of this work, and the sharing of this work throughout the professional community.

As part of the administration team, I presented various tops during the staff opening day meeting. I specifically shared current school data, introduced portions of the new instructional framework being implemented by the district and expectations for instructional practices.

2b. Focus on Instructional Time: The principal creates processes and schedules which protect teachers from disruption of instructional or preparation time.
Prior to the start of the school year, I worked with the administration team to update the faulty/staff handbook as well as the student handbook which included reviewing the bell schedule and providing feedback on the intervention schedule. Northern Nash High School has adapted an intervention block in the middle of the schedule called "Knight Time." Teachers have three 30 minute blocks in order to assist students outside of the classroom. Utilizing feedback from staff in relation to last year's schedule, administration made adjustments and improvements for the current school year. As a leader, it is important to seek feedback from your staff when implemented any new initiative or ideas and utilize that feedback to make improvements that will help teachers help students. At Northern Nash High School, we work hard to ensure that school time is used efficiently.
