Standard Six
A school executive will design structures and processes that result in community engagement, support, and ownership. Acknowledging that schools no longer reflect but, in fact, build community, the leader proactively creates with staff, opportunities for parents/guardians, community, and business representatives to participate as “stockholders” in the school such that continued investment of resources and good will are not left to chance.
6a. Parent and Community Involvement and Outreach: The school executive designs structures and processes which result in parent and community engagement, support and ownership for the school.
Administration as well as our English Department Chair (who serves as our webmaster) updates our Facebook with school information, events, announcements and celebrations. Further, administration utilizes connect ed by sending a weekly message to all students, staff and parents each Sunday. I have sent three messages this school year.
6b. Federal, State and District Mandates: The school executive designs protocols and processes in order to comply with federal, state, and district mandates.

Schools are required to hold drills to prepare for emergencies such as fire, tornado and lock downs for other emergencies that requires students not move throughout the building. As part of preparing for lock down, I was mandated by the district to have staff participate in a table top activity. Teachers were given a series of events based on one scenario and had to articulate how they would respond to each aspect of the scenario. This was done to have teachers think about how they would truly respond in an emergency situation. As a staff, we discussed the appropriate response and contigencies we have not planned for in our current lock down plan. As a leader, I am responsible for ensuring that my staff has an appropriate response to emergencies that will cause the least amount of harm.

I attended most of the board meetings this year to stay abreast of any federal, state or local mandates or initiatives.
